Getrude Hotchkiss Heyn Chapel Celebration

The grand reopening of Bethune-Cookman University’s Gertrude Hotchkiss Heyn Memorial Chapel is underway. April 22 to April 28, 2013 has been reserved for the chapel’s dedication in order to “Celebrate Our Christian Heritage.”

On Monday morning at 10:20 a.m., the Heyn Chapel dedication will begin with an opening worship service for the B-CU family, featuring the Gospel Choir and B-CU’s own President Dr. Edison O. Jackson. Other worship services have been planned following the 10:20 service, in order to ensure the success of our newly remodeled house of worship.

Holy Communion will be served in the chapel Monday through Friday from 12 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Monday, April 22, 2013

  • 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Open House - Come and see "what the Lord has done," as President Jackson proudly remarks.
  • 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. “Private Moments”
  • This event is an opportunity for elders of the community and university family to share their personal memories of the chapel.
  • 7 p.m. Community and University: Worship Through Music and the Spoken Word

Tuesday, April 23, 2013

  • 7 p.m. “Brothers, Thou Art Loosed”
    This service is for males only, and it will be led by Bishop Rudolph W. McKissick Jr.

Wednesday, April 24, 2013

  • 10:20 a.m. Freshman College Worship

This service is primarily intended for freshman college but all members of the university family are welcome. It will be led by Reverend Dr. Randolph Bracy.

  • 7 p.m. University-Wide Bible Study

 Bible study will be held in every residential hall, as well as the Center for Civic Engagement.

Thursday, April 25, 2013

  • 6 p.m.  “Sisters, Thou Art Loosed”
    This service is for females only and will feature guest speaker Dr. Davina Jones.

Friday, April 26, 2013

  • 6 p.m. “Friday Night at the Movies”

Participants will watch the movie, The Encounter, followed by a brief discussion.

Saturday, April 27, 2013

  • 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Prayer and Meditation

Heyn Chapel will be open all day for prayer and meditation.

Sunday, April 28, 2013

  • 2 p.m. Worship Service

Worship service will be led by President Jackson; Reverend Dr. Kevin James will be the speaker. The official dedication of the chapel and Holy Communion are a part of this service. Cake and punch will be served immediately following the service.

A video presentation on the history of the chapel will be shown at various times throughout the week.

Campus officials, students, faculty, and staff of B-CU are pleased to announce this grand occasion and extend the invitation for all to come and enjoy in the rededication of our university’s chapel. We are thankful for the blessings of our past, and look forward to blessings to come on our campus and from our beautifully restored Heyn Chapel.

Still Time to Apply for It's Not Too Late Scholarship

It’s Not too Late Scholarship (INTL) is pleased to launch its campaign to provide tuition relief to deserving students. TINTL is a non-profit organization located in Swansea, Ill., and founded by Bethune-Cookman University alumni Joseph and Theresa Flanders in 2009.
