From the Office of the Chaplain

Welcome! Bethune-Cookman University is a very special place. Our faculty, staff and students come from various faith traditions; from all stages of life, and from all over the world. We are local and we are global. We stand firmly in the Christian tradition, unembarrassed about our belief that God was in Christ reconciling the world. At the same time, we are a place of hospitality where the campus at large may come to rediscover that the God who has acted in Jesus Christ for the salvation of the whole world is also the Creator of all humankind, the One who is “above all and through all and in all” (Ephesians 4:6).
The primary role of the University Chaplain/Director of Religious Life is to respond to the spiritual needs of students through a ministry of care and compassion. This position directs and coordinates chaplain ministries designed to develop the spiritual lives of students, faculty, and staff of Bethune-Cookman University. While we are affiliated with The United Methodist Church, B-CU serves all faith groups and denominations through the Office of Religious Life.
All are welcome in the Chaplain’s office at Bethune-Cookman University. Regardless of race, culture, religion, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, gender, or ability, you are welcome here. Whether or not you hail from a religious or faith tradition, you are welcome here. Simply stop by or make an appointment by contacting me at 386-481-2497 or monroew@cookman.edu Again, welcome to B-CU!
Shalom!
Walter E. Monroe, Jr.
