Men and Women Senate

To run for office of any organization, candidates must meet the following criteria:

Election for officers of the Men/Women Senate shall be held annually at least one month prior to the end of the second semester. The exact dates will be decided upon by the Vice-President for Student Affairs. The newly elected officers shall assume duties after installation and serve throughout the remaining part of the semester.

Only the President, Vice-President, Treasurer and Chaplain will be voted on. Other members will be selected by application and interview process.

Confidentiality

Because of the personal nature of the information covered in Administrative Hearings, all members of the Senate are required to sign confidentiality forms not to disclose any information discussed. Violations of that agreement will result in immediate removal from the panel and may result in disciplinary action.

Programs
Each senator is charged with an initiative to help educate the student body on the rules and regulations from the Student Handbook. Although initiative changes from time to time, the underlining message is geared towards education of the entire student population. Some of the programs that have been implemented are as follows. During freshman orientation the Men and Women Senators entertain the freshmen class with skits on violations of “Zero Tolerance Policy” to educate them on how to avoid suspension from school. Throughout the school term the senators visit the residence halls to have interactive chats with the students on rules and regulations from the Student Handbook regarding judicial issues. Usually upon availability we also invite either local judges or television personalities (judges) to come and speak to the general student body. Game shows are also an exciting way of getting students involved with knowing your student Handbook. Prizes are given to the students who answer the most correct questions regarding the handbook.
