STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS

Various professional organizations associated with music and music education provide opportunities for students to gain pre-professional training and increased awareness in their chosen field.

National Association for Music Education (NAfME)

The National Association for Music Education Collegiate (formerly CMENC) is the professional organization for students interested in music education or the teaching of music. It is affiliated with the National Association for Music Education (MENC) and the Florida Collegiate MENC (FCMENC), part of the Florida Music Educators Association (FMEA). Members receive the national journals, the Music Educators Journal, published by NAfME and the state journal, The Florida Music Director, published by FMEA and the Florida Music Teacher Association. Members participate in local chapter meetings as well as state and national conventions and workshops. Many types of activities are undertaken. Over the years, Bethune-Cookman students have held various state offices and committee positions. All Bethune-Cookman students who are interested in music, regardless of major, are invited to become members of NAfME. Information about the organization can be obtained from chapter members or chapter advisors.

Franklin Beckwith '59 Donates $60,000 to B-CU

Franklin Beckwith, who is blind, couldn’t see the expanse of the current campus. But, he said he wants to be a part of educating the next generation and contribute to the school’s growth. Thus, he proudly delivered a check for $60,000 to Bethune-Cookman University, and quietly asked that the funds be used to help current students pay for their education.
