Organizations & Affiliations
Physical Education Majors or Minors Club (PEMM): PEMM is a campus organization that encourages prospective teachers to promote service and social values throughout public schools in America.
Council for Exceptional Children: The Council for Exceptional Children is the world’s leading organization advocating the rights of individuals with disabilities. ESE majors are required to join the CEC organization and are encouraged to attend local conferences.
Student Advisory Council: Student leaders are eligible to serve on the Student Advisory Council on recommendations by Department Chairs. The council members assist the faculty in planning and implementing student activities and discuss issues related to the School of Education improvement.
Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society: Kappa Delta Pi is the Honorary Education Fraternity. Established to promote excellence in and to recognize outstanding contributions to education, the honor society initiates those persons who exhibit professional qualities, worthy educational ideals and sound scholarship. http://www.kdp.org/
Simply the Best: The Teacher Education Program has had continuous accreditation by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Educators (NCATE) since the mid 1980s and currently has eight programs approved by the Department of Education. The program has earned praise for the high rate at which its graduates pass state examinations required for teacher certification. We are proud that many of our graduates have been nominated for prestigious Teacher of the Year Awards at various school districts.
The School of Education offers its students a variety of aids to help ensure successful completion of the student’s program. This support includes practice tests prior to completion of the general knowledge (GK) exams, professional education exam and the subject area exam.
A Career Fair is held in the spring and includes personnel from several school districts in Florida and the southeastern United States. Prospective candidates have an opportunity to interview with hiring managers.
Each fall and spring, a reception is held for student interns, attended by School of Education faculty and staff as well as administrators and cooperating teachers from participating schools.
