College-Prep English
The mission of the CARES English Department is to empower first-year students with an understanding of the rhetorical skills of reading, writing, and critical analysis necessary for academic discourse that leads to college-level writing and communication across a broad spectrum of media.
Mandatory lab assignments reinforce skills and strategies utilizing individualized instruction. The instructor may occasionally substitute enrichment activities for lab.
Additional tutoring is available for students by request. The instructor may also require a student to attend additional tutoring sessions if deemed necessary.

Specifically created for adult learners, this educational software program combines diagnostics, mastery-based exercises and assessment tools to help improve writing skills. MyWritingLab provides a personalized study plan for each student and measures his or her progress. Students will work on assignments in the lab with their instructors and on their own.
